I was just informed today that the father of a friend of mine has purchased and is looking to re-sell a large and I can only assume, complete Canadain coin collection. I have not seen any of the coins yet but it has been confirmed to me that the collection includes such rarities as the 1921 nickel and the 1921 half.

If anyone has an interest in filling in any holes in their Canadian coin collection please contact me at: scott.melville@sympatico.ca

Also, if anyone can help me with the latest catalogue prices for the 1921 nickel and half it would be of great help to me.

Thanks

1921 Nickel

VG-8: $5,500 F-12: $7,500 VF-20: $9,000 EF-40: $12,000 AU-50: $15,000 AU-55: $17,500 MS-60: $20,000 MS-63: $30,000 MS-64: $40,000 MS-65: $60,000

1921 Half

VG-8: $35,000 F-12: $45,000 VF-20: $55,000 EF-40: $65,000 AU-50: $75,000 AU-55: $85,000 MS-60: N/A MS-63: N/A MS-64: N/A MS-65: N/A

With a collection like this, I would think that the best bet would be to consign it to a large auction. This could be Torex, or possibly Heritage Auction Galleries.

No Problem.

Heritage has sold a few halves and nickels. Including a 1921 Half PCGS MS-66 for $218,500

That's an incredible collection. The 1921 50¢ piece is the 3rd rarest Canadian coin to ever be minted. There were only about 75 or so that survived with only about 3 of them being in MS grade. Very Rare!!! There are only two other coins minted that beat the 1921 50¢ in rarity and they are the 1936 Dot Cent and 10¢.

This collection is so rare... no wait a minute.. it's very common..  All the rare coins were fakes. What a bummer!

They were probably bought to fill the holes in an album.

It's too bad they were fake, this would have been an amazing collection!
