Quite a surprise.  Fortunately there is no Ladbrokes in Canada.  The next question is "who will sign the next issue of Canadian banknotes" as there is a real possibility (an even money proposition) that Macklem will walk.

I just watched his interview on the news.  He certainly does not have the charisma Carney has, just by seeing and listening to him talk about the Canadian economy.   IMHO,  this looks more like a patronage appointment than anything else.  This pick surprised a lot of people because this guy is pretty much an unknown.

  Smile from your heart.  ;D

I guess anything is possible  Perhaps if he really wanted the job badly and was snubbed for doobius reasons.  In that case, if I were him, I'd give my two weeks notice.  I'm thinking to back to when Coyne quit and Rasminsky replaced him; Beattie stayed on as deputy.  I'm assuming Beattie didn't want the top job.

I'm fairly certain you're not the only one with this impression (& its in keeping with the current political climate in Ottawa).  They don't want another intelligent maverick (who may periodically stand up to them) like Carney.

The Bank of Canada has announced the nomination of the Mark Carney's successor:  Stephen S. Poloz

http://www.bankofcanada.ca/2013/05/press-releases/stephen-poloz-appointed-governor-of-bank-of-canada/

And I found what it ssems to be his signature:

It's probably the worst signature in the Bank's history...
