I thought I start this new thread to discuss any observations about the 2018 Viola Desmond $10 note itself:
(for observations on its release or circumstances refer to the old thread)

So far we have:

- I noticed only a BPN (on the left near the window).  (-since edited-)

FTW & FTY prefixes reported

Changed the font for "CANADA"

Design is much more complex than 2013 (much like the "150"). SN skipping with large gaps like the "150" series too.

Other observations

Both plate numbers are there, see the attached images.

Are these notes shorter than the 2013?
(Whenever I hold them up to the old series the 2013 seem slightly longer)

Much more colourful. I like the yellows in the Halifax map. That Halifax map on the note totally reminds me of this:

It seems that input for the 2017 commemorative note seems to have stuck with the B.O.C.

The Canadian Coat of Arms had gone awol since the Journey series.
Many of the new security features from the Canada 150 and Longest Reign notes have been carried over such as the holographic micro printing.

Received a very mixed up bundle of new tens today (that were not counted by teller) & had the following numbers (there were also gaps between many of the ranges which i did not include):
FTW 7414782 03 03 (on its own)
FTW 7414793 03 03 to
FTW 7414797 03 03
FTW 7414637 03 03
FTW 7414554 02 02

FTW 7408606 49 49 -to-
FTW 7408615 49 49
FTW 7408632 49 49 (on its own)
FTW 7408666 49 49 (on its own)
FTW 7408699 49 49 (on its own)
FTW 7408400 48 48 to
FTW 7408500 48 48 (with many missing 1 or 2 notes)
FTW 7408201 47 47 (on its own)
- the notes I bold just seemed to jump into a new range (FTW 7414637) but position numbers remain the same (03) and then another jump to FTW 7414554 with position number 02

Gone through about 20 bricks so far
And all bundles have always been mixed
Consecutive runs from 2 up to 15 notes
At best But never the same from brick to  brick

Always looking for #1 serial number notes in any denomination/any series

There are some unusual things happening in this bundle but by no means it is something that cannot be explained based on the knowledge that has been acquired about how the packaging of the bundles might be happening.

Typically I would suggest the bundle order when viewed with the serial number facing up (i.e. back side of the notes in the bundle facing up) would go as follows:

All PN 49 starting with the top note 7408606
Then PN 48
Then PN 47
Then PN 03
Then PN 02 with bottom note 7414554

The odd notes out are actually 7414637 and 7408500 but there is a possible explanation for those as well.

In the last several years the bundles would go from 7408499 to 7408200 and then 7408201 and so on. You would not see 7408500 following 7408499 even though they are the same PN. This is now being seen in the Vertical 10 bundles and there may be an explanation for that. Have to wait and examine a few more bundles to understand the reason for this happening.

Another interesting observation:

The bundle has FTW 7414637 03 03. If the bundle had FTW 7408637 49 49 (which is shown as missing from the sequence of PN49 notes) then they would be from the same printed sheet.

Gone through a FTY bundle today. It had 89 notes with the same first 7 digits. The other 11 notes were different first 7 digits but all in sequence

Out of the 89 there was one missing from the sequence. There were first 11 in sequence and then another 78 in sequence.

So in summary

11 in sequence
start of a different 7 digit sequence
11 in sequence
      one missing
78 in sequence

Thanks Rupiah & Friedsquid for your input.

I have had many bundles with 2-3 or even 10 or more missing SN - but nothing like that last one which I thought was worthy of a post.  Today's was 2 more typical bundles like Rupiah's FTY bundle with sequential # and a few odd notes missing:
FTW 7436630 35 35 -to - FTW 7436666 35 35
FTW 7436673 35 35 -to - FTW 7436700 35 35
FTW 7436400 34 34 -to - FTW 7436457 34 34
And:
FTW 7436268 33 33 -to - FTW 7436300 33 33
FTW 7436000 32 32 -to - FTW 7436074 32 32

- these have been the typical progression of SN I've seen (unlike that "FTW 7414554 02 02")  & I found 7 missing SN in bundle 1 as above (which can be typical).  I suppose that FTW 7414554 02 02 and FTW 7408606 49 49  came from 2 separate reams that were brought together and then cut as such.

In my last post, I also found it strange that FTW 7414637 03 03 is a 160 jump in numbers but the same PN as FTW 7414797 03 03.

Finally got my hands on some here in Thunder Bay. Uncirculated FTW09. Managed to snag 12 and got to peek at more from the same bundle. It looks like the same bundle pattern as the previous series (498, 499, 200, 201) for what it is worth.

The form factor of the Vertical $10 with respect to:

relative location and size of metallic stripe is the same as all polymers so far.
relative location of tactile features for visually impaired is the same as all polymers so far.
relative location of prefix and serial number and its orientation is the same as all polymers so far (and also journey series, bird series)

The sheet arrangement and relative PN arrangement on sheet is also the same.

Just completed an article comparing the design elements of Frontiers Series $10 and Vertical $10 to be considered for next CPMS Journal.

One feature that is never seen before that is on the Vertical $10 is that a portion of the border on the face and along the short side is Intaglio printed. If you look at the band right below the signature of Deputy Governor it is Intaglio. Since the borders on these notes are created through continuous printing with adjoining notes the corresponding top portion of the note is also Intaglio.

It is interesting that the large 10 counter in white is actually visible because of the dark Intaglio background.

The BoC in its communication dealing with raised printing makes mention of other areas such as the portrait, the word CANADA, the smaller 10, etc. but no mention of this other portion.

Those are interesting observations Rupiah (thanks for sharing).

Today I just received 2 bundles, one of which was mixed with circulated 2018 tens (FFA, FTY and FTW way out of range) and another one that was supposed to be "untouched" from TD HQ TO.
It is also interesting to note that within 1 bundle I got:
FTW 7408437 48 48
FTW 7408517 48 48
FTW 7408598 48 48
FTW 7408303 47 47
FTW 7408344 47 47
- If you look at my entry 2 weeks ago (Dec 4th) you'll notice that the numbers above overlap the ones I entered before.  Numerous notes were missing in both entries. FTW 7408437 was not next to the 517-598 range (& is also 160 number jump with same PN// which is similar to my earlier observation)
