Owen Sound Police Service is warning local businesses and financial institutions about counterfeit $100 bills being circulated in the city.

Police have responded to several incidents Friday where suspected counterfeit $100 bills were received for goods.

The bills that have been seized have identical serial numbers (EKR2223601) and a blue stamp on the back of the bill.

A quick Google of EKR2223601 brings up articles from February 2018 about the same thing occurring in New Brunswick, same serial and all. Is that the best they can do?

It's a good thing I no longer care about $100 bills these days.  I had no problem with them less than two decades ago, but the counterfeiting problem is what tarnished my respect and faith for them.

As much as I like physical cash, I personally think we're better off with digital currency.  I think physical cash is a hotbed for trouble, including robberies and counterfeiting.  I have a feeling that digital currency is what the Federal Government might consider after the new vertical banknote series is fully released.
