The Spink perception of the Canadian Paper Market

I thought some of you might be interested to hear the perception of Canadian Paper as portrayed by the Director of the Banknote Department at Spink.

I just got off the phone with Barnaby after chatting about the status of various international markets and he indicated that the perception has been that Canada has been flat for many years and is only now showing signs of life of being competitive with the other exciting countries that have matured faster than us and have a more evolved investment culture.

It would appear we still have a lot of work to do to prove our market is world class and can attract serious and sustained international respect and attention.

Was Barnaby referring to price? as to maturity,or was he alluding to interest in the hobby,or both?or neither?

Hi there,

First let me say I think your question is an excellent one and answering it requires caution as I did not ask him to elaborate on the remark.

My strong sense is that he was speaking in terms of hammer results compared to other countries and overall international interest in Canadian paper.

I am somewhat encouraged that he is seeing some signs of life from our market but he probably doesn't fully understand all of the intimate details of the nature of our market the way some of us inside do.

I will be having a follow up with him shortly and I will ask for an expansion of his comment and I will report back to this thread re same.

Perhaps in the same converation,you can get from Barnaby,his sense of the future direction of Canadian Paper Money,ie where does he see the Canadian Market,in his opinion,moving? Forward,static,backwards(god-forbid!hehe).

I will see what I can uncover.

The one big question I want to ask him next is what has to happen for him to get really excited about the Canadian Market and for Spink to consider us as a top 5 market.
