off sets in notes

Could someone please explain the term off set printing? I asume it is a note that has printing in a place it is not meant to be but is there a better expanation?

Well there is a perfect explanation on page 369 if you have a Charlton catalogue.

It is the impression in whole or in part being offset to the wrong side of the note.

This is a scan of my $5 note that is offset 100 % it looks darker in person.

There is no browse drop down menu for searching for my image so I'm going to make another posting in the other thread.

There two explanations
One In the printing world.
Offset printing is a widely used printing technique where the inked image is transferred (or "offset") from a plate to a rubber blanket, then to the printing surface.

In the bank note world
 A  printing registration problem or  incomplete printing,
something that should have been thrown in the garbage
but we all love errors..
