Welcome to the forum. The best way to find out about the value of banknotes is to pick up a copy of the Charlton Canadian Government Paper Money guide. If you are just researching a few notes, your local library should have a copy.

Estimated 9,999,999 “SY” notes printed (a common note)
Condition & Value:
VG = $5
F = $5
VF = $8
EF = $12
AU = $20
UNC = $35
This is not a rare note and would most likely be valued at face value, but they are becoming harder and harder to find in our change due to it being an older series. It never hurts to hang on to an older note if you don’t need the money.
