I recently acquired a $50 1937 Gordon-Towers note with the very low serial number B/H 0000141 (a pseudo-radar?). The condition is original About VF, but trimmed. I have seen a couple of low serial number $1 1937 notes offered on eBay but no higher denomination examples. I was wondering if members would be willing to publicize the low serial number 1937 notes that they have in their collections.

Low serial numbers can logically be expected to be much more plentiful on the lower denomination notes because those denominations were issued with numerous different prefixes, i.e., 78 distinct prefixes for the $1, 29 for the $2, 26 for the $5, 30 for the $10, 9 for the $20, but only 2 distinct prefixes for each of the $50 and $100, and one for the $1000.

Has anyone seen a $50, $100 or $1000 1937 note with a lower number than the one illustrated here?

I had in my collection at one time B/J 0000064. It was sold to another collector.

The J. J. Pittman auction Part III Session 1 on August 6th 1999 had Lot # 2749 a BC-13 $50.00 English note Series A  in UNC with serial # A00021 for sale.  No estimates were given but the PRL for the note was $6900.

I have seen other 1935 $50, $100, and $1000 notes in auction catalogues that had serial numbers less than 1000.  Unfortunately long time collectors will know that serial numbers were not given in descriptions in auction catalogues for the most part until the 1990's.  Makes one wonder back in the 1960's to 80's what low number notes Charlton and Nadin-Davis may have sold?

The notes you mentioned are 1935 notes and the question was about 1937 low numbered notes. There are two 1935 #0000021 notes owned by a forum member pictured in the "Let's see your sets thread" that I had posted a link to in my earlier post, also in that thread there is a low numbered 1937 $1 note with the serial number 0000001. I know of a low numbered 1937 $2 with the number 0000001 aswell and here is the scan but is not my note.
