Anyone ever see or own any R/C prefix printed by BABN?? These notes are were all printed by BABN below 0.088M. I have been looking for one for quite some time now. Never found one yet.   :(

The two R/C notes illustrated in the above links are the common CBN (Canadian Bank Note Company) printings, not the very rare BABN (British American Bank Note Company) printings. The name of the printing company appears on the front of the notes at the bottom centre.

Also you would be looking for a note with the number between 0000001-0088000.

Now lets see how many links you have.

Surely some R/C low numbers were kept?  I've seen so many S/C lows... did all the R/C's slip by?

Its possible.  Never seen one for sale, even some of the most reputable dealers at the nuphilex show have never seen them either.  Indeed they are very rare. Perhaps well undervalued in charlton at $950 in GemUNC.
If anyone has one of these notes, please show us a pic!  :D

The price for R/C notes (BABN) is now up to $1,100 in the 21st Ed. Up from $950. Meanwhile the price dropped a bit on the *R/C.
Still no luck though locating an R/C  :'(

I started this topic 6 years ago. Does anyone have more details on this note. Are there any around?

I've been watching for one for 10+ years and have never come across one in any grade.
When you mentioned the *R/C coming down in price, I find that interesting as in my experience they are also hard to find and in my opinion undervalued in the cat. with only 8000 printed as compared to the *A/C 16000 printed. What's with that?

The same for me, I am looking for that note for the last 15 years and I checked over a million transactions on ebay during the last ten years and never saw one. Maybe, if they increase the value in the catalogue we will see one pop up.

The  *R/C with 8,000 issued is a CBN note.  It isn't too scarce.  There were six of them in the RCNA sale this past August, and a lot of three apparently did not sell.  One should not read too much into a low number printed; it is the number that were saved that determines supply, not the number printed.  The BABN R/C regular issue note does indeed seem harder to find, even though 88,000 were printed.

This is 100% true! *R/C had only 8,000 printed yet it is not hard to find one but forget finding the regular R/C BABN issue. I think i have seen almost every rare prefix and most replacement notes in person (and seen them listed on ebay or auction catalogue). I have even see once a 1935 $500 note! Yet the R/C BABN really puzzles me. There's none around and yet the catalogue seems to not reflect the rarity of this note. Could the info. be incorrect? Has anyone ever seen one listed in an auction catalogue or perhaps in a CPMS journal?

The reason again comes back to the numbers saved.
An R/C regular issue note would not be kept, back then, for numismatic reasons.
Only a very few people were collecting by prefix fifty years ago.
Many people were becoming aware that asterisk notes were different, and they were much more inclined to put them away.
The same thing happened with the S/R $2 test notes - collectors figured out that something was special about them when they showed up with three different signature varieties, and made sure lots were kept.  The E/R and G/R test $2s were not suspected of being special, and were not saved, so they are now rare.

J.B. has asked, regarding the BABN R/C $5s, "could the info be incorrect?
I do not see how it can be wrong as I have been able to put my hand to three documents all of which confirm it.
A memorandum from the chief of the currency division to the secretary of the Bank of Canada, dated 14 Jan. 1959, says in part,
"The Canadian Bank Note Company could begin numbering their $5.00 notes at number R/C 88001 where the British American Bank Note Company complete the order for $5.00 notes.
This will not be in multiples of 32,000 [plates were 32/on at the time] in either case but this will make very little difference because both companies will supply the right number of sheets to adjust."
BABN to Secretary, BoC, 21 Jan. 1959, reads in part, under "5.00 Notes", "Our last number on this denomination will be R/C 0088000.
BABN to Chief of the Currency Division, 29 Jan. 1959, lists notes on order to be delivered by the end of 1959, from which I extract
"$5  P/C 3424001 - R/C 0088000".
With this weight of document-based evidence, it would be difficult to make the case that the Charlton catalogue information regarding this changeover is wrong.
