eBay - Great bargains available if you put in the effort!

I recently ran a "Completed Listings" eBay search using the word "ASTERISK" and was stunned to see that a very rare Beattie-Rasminsky $1 *N/Y Asterisk note in AU or better condition slipped under the radar recently for a mere $6.50 on Buy-It-Now (book value is $600.00+)!

There have been other examples of rare notes that have slipped under the radar and have been reeled in by buyers who check the listings carefully and, above all, frequently. I'm sure that there will be many more such finds in the future. By way of example, a few months ago a Dominion Bank $50 1925 note with the previously unrecorded Nanton signature was unearthed in an eBay Store. I've never been so fortunate myself but I shouldn't really complain as I just don't put in the sort of effort and perseverance that are required to strike gold. As they often say, "The more you put into a hobby, the more you get out" and that's very very true when searching on eBay is concerned!

Are other Forum members aware of any similarly great finds on eBay?

About a month ago, I found a Bonin-Thiessen AIX $20 replacement in AU for $35 where bok value is $60. Also, about a week ago, I actually saw a *U/T in VF go for $220 where book value is $550. Unfortunately, I didn't have nearly enough money.

There was a nondescript, ugly, beat up 1991 $20 listed in Tennessee with a Buy It Now price of US $8, including shipping.  I bought it.  Then I spent it. 

Another user (a believe somebody on this board) bought a 1954 $2 Z/Z replacement note for under $10 with Buy It Now.

About 2 months ago while searching for that elusive treasure I came across a 1937 Osbourne $1. in unc. condition for $10. + $10. for shipping  Buy it now. Finally the big score   I bought it.....about an hour later I received an email from the seller saying he had made a mistake in the listing and he could not sell such an expensive note so cheep
So I'm still searching & waiting....It's a matter of being in the right place at the right time!

About two months ago I noticed a 1913 Royal Bank $10 (battleship note) in VG sell for $43.00 bucks. This note books at $250 and usualy retails at around $400. I was watching it and completely forgot to bid.

The grade was not flattering but I very much doupt we will see this again anytime soon.

Hey Coinboy, being relatively new to buying on Ebay. I thought that once an item was sold then it was in fact sold. I didn't realize that the seller could retract an item because it didn't sell for enough. Am I wrong or should I maybe pull my head out of the clouds?  Starman.

Eg. I sell you a 1954 $5 note Gem Unc (with I/X prefix) for only $25. 

So you buy it then 1 day later I Email you and say "I am very sorry but you can't have this note because I screwed up on the price!"

I would probably go to Ebay about that one!

as a matter of fact, evetytime someone list an item on ebay, it's a contract. So you could bring the other guy in court.

But all the trouble that it could cause would probably cost you more than the deal you've made.

About 3 months ago, found a great bargain, there was an error in the listing should have been 200$ and not 20$ as i bought it, after writing a few time to the seller. He decided to sell it to me anyway, after a few weeks without receiving nothing in the mail, i wrote him back, he told me that item was probably lost in mail, and gave me a full refund....

So if you have a good deal, better pay for registered to be sure the seller really sent the item!!!
