1937 $50 Gordon-Towers Note

Hello..

Can I get some Forum opinion on this note I purchased.   It looks to be AU to me but the note is printed slightly crooked and there are some small ripples in the paper.

As well as the color on the paper seems off to me but I know they did change paper types during this series because of the War effort.

There are no visible creases, folds or pinholes.

Any opinions would be great.  This is my first 1937 $50.  I finally snagged one in my price range so this is the first time I have actually physically seen one.

Nice! How much did you get it for? In my opinion, I would agree that it would probably be AU, especially if the ripples are not too significant and are only visible using grading tecniques

I paid $170 for it.   So I got a good deal and that's why I bought it.  I have seen VF's for that price and this one is much nicer.

I believe to be AU as well so it was a nice deal with AU being in the $800 range.

I like the $50 but this was the first time I could afford one.  $400+ for an EF+ is a little much for a single note for me.

How is the embossing on it? ..you should be able see the serial number impressions on the reverse of the note... if you have that... you got yourself a great deal..not cleaned and pressed or oiled and boiled..which seems to be the norm these days

From the scan I see 3 vertical and 1 horizontal fold which seam to be complete end to end. Along with a slightly rounded corner (top right) and an uneven top margin I would call this an nice EF. The top margin also shows a few wrinkles

These are just my observations from the scan and would be a little disappointed to buy this as a full AU. Still a very attractive note and at a great value. Congrats

Thanks for the replies so far. I did some close up inspecting with a light last night.

At first look from the front under regular light it looks great.   

But when you look at the back you do see that note had been folded previously.  Unfortunately it was probably pressed as well since the front doesn't show the folds.  But the back you can see the lines under a bright light.

When I bought the note I was hoping for an AU but I would of been happy with the an EF for that price. 

The note does look very nice except for the uneven margins.  At least it wasn't trimmed.

Well it now completes my $1 to $100 1937 series in my collection.
