The "true value" of this note would be much higher to a radar or 1935 Canadian bank note collector than to collectors of more recent series, or Dominion note collectors. It has excellent eye appeal and most paper money enthusiasts appreciate special serial numbers. Charlton has no estimates for radars of the 1935 or 37 series since they so rarely appear at auction and most radar collectors started on 1954 or later.
This note appears to be a very clean VF-EF since all borders seem wide, white, crisp with full, well-defined corners. Its impossible to determine whether it has been processed from a scan and the only detraction I can see is the slight red ink on the reverse (above the small numeral 5). I cannot determine the actual grade or severity of the creases but I would guess it would be very close to an EF.
I believe this Banque Du Canada beauty would likely trend above the $2100 (20th Ed book value) for a regular French $5 at EF. Since French notes (above VF) are often fetching higher than book, and it's a seldom seen 2 digit radar note, I would guess that it would go north of $2500. I believe it would fetch a better sale price at a live auction (where its condition can be verified) to that of an online sale.
This might be a conservative estimate if just a couple of radar enthusiasts engage in a bidding war. For a note of this condition and rarity-- I can very well see that happening.
