Volunteers Wanted

Would you like to give something back to the collecting community? Do you want to help out a bit more here on the forums? We need your help!

Believe it or not, this is a busy place and lots of stuff is happening. Every day members find new high or low serial numbers that need to be confirmed by adding images. There are frequently new notes reported for our various registers on the Wiki site. Several times a month, there are coin shows happening, so the calendar has to be kept up to date, and all posts need to be monitored to ensure that the forums are kept in a clean and organized state.

As well, over the past couple of years, the Wiki site has become increasingly important to our community. We started using it for our High/Low lists and it quickly grew to include various other note registries. The High/Low lists have been replaced with the Serial Number Database, but the registers require ongoing work to keep them up to date.

The CPMF is looking for volunteers for the following positions:

1) Moderator
Moderators are commonly compared to police officers as their primary responsibility is to help our forum members follow the rules of the site. From time to time, members find themselves in conflict with the rules, and it is the duty of a moderator to intervene and find a solution to the situation. More specifically, moderators are responsible for the day-to-day patrolling of the forums to make sure everyone is following the rules, including keeping the forum clean and organized by moving, merging, splitting and editing posts as necessary. Other duties are assigned to moderators as needed, including updating the forum calendar for upcoming coin shows and events. Experience being a moderator is not necessary for this position, but is obviously helpful. Moderators should be frequent visitors to the forums, and be committed to an active role in assisting others. Moderators are often assigned a subset of the forums to which they will have administrative powers. With experience and proven aptitude, commitment and dedication, moderators have the potential to increase their portfolio of forums up to and including the role of global moderator.

2) Wiki Contributors
Wiki Contributors are those volunteers who actively monitor various auction companies, eBay, and/or dealer inventories for the trade of notes which are tracked in the registers and they update the registers with their findings. Contributors can monitor a variety of sources, or just a couple. They can track a large number of note varieties, or just a few that are of particular interest to them. Either way, you are contributing the information you find to the collective knowledge of the Canadian paper money community. You do not need any special skills to be a Wiki Contributor, but being at least slightly familiar with editing webpages or Wiki pages is certainly an asset. The ability to adhere to an established style guide when editing is also required.

3) Wiki Editors
Wiki Editors actively pursue not so much a contributory role as a maintenance and organizational role. Editors monitor the changes made by Contributors and ensure that they are following a consistent set of formatting and layout guidelines across the entire site. Editors fix spelling mistakes and typos, clean up graphics to ensure that they are well-cropped, aligned straight, etc., and assist Contributors in making updates to the site. Editors are to the Wiki as moderators are to the forums. Wiki Editors should have some knowledge of editing webpages or Wiki pages, or at least a strong aptitude for learning how. Editors should also have a very strong attention to detail, and a high standard for quality and consistency across the site. Novice graphics editing abilities are also highly valuable.

4) SNDB Assistant
This role is specifically meant to take care of the emails that are sent in with scans of notes that are new high or low serial numbers. The successful SNDB Assistant will monitor this email inbox and at least once per week process all new emails. Images are to be checked against the notes listed as requiring confirmation in the Serial Number Database and if correct, resize and/or crop the images as appropriate and upload them to the SNDB. Confirming notes is important as it helps to ensure that all significant reports are accurate and verified. Novice graphic editing abilities are expected for this role.

We need your help. These forums cannot be run by one or two people, and I personally have many other commitments aside from this website. I do not want to see this website suffer because I cannot do everything that is required. If you want to help, now is your chance. Read the above job descriptions and if you see something that you think might interest you, please send me an email: bwjm@cdnpapermoney.com. Please include as much as you can in terms of why you are interested in the job and why you think you would be a good choice for it. While we thank everyone for their interest, emails that demonstrate a lack of effort or dedication will not be pursued.

Thank you!

We are always looking for more help around the forums. We are actively looking to find people for all of the above listed positions.

These important roles are crucial to the daily operation of the Canadian Paper Money site as they keep the site up-to-date with the latest finds, whether they be a new high-numbered $10 note, or a rare *V/E $20 note. The Serial Number Database and the Wiki site are used by collectors every single day to determine what the latest high and low numbers are, how many notes of a particular variety are known, what the ranges for various notes are, and more. If you have ever wanted to "give something back" to the site that you have been visiting for a while now, this is the time to do it, and this is the job for you!

Please contact me right away if you are interested in these or any other volunteer positions here on the forums!
