I wonder if the ongoing Canada Post strike may delay deliveries of the new $10s?

I doubt it. Bank notes will be delivered by armored vehicle, which is a service Canada Post doesn't offer, so I doubt the strike is making armored vehicle services any busier than normal.

It takes a week for the order to be placed at TD and only some branches can order them

I noticed the new $10 bill has been in circulation for two days now, and as of today, no reports of anyone getting their hands on the new $10s.

The only reports of new $10s being ordered are from users in Ontario.  I wonder if there are not very many banks across the nation ordering $10 bills anymore?

As I mentioned before, I saw no new $10s in my province, NL, since July or August 2014.  FOUR YEARS.  Every time I see a $10 bill in my change, it's something old, nothing new.

The commemorative $10s issued in June last year technically do not count, as they were intended to be keepsakes.

I did visit Sobeys for some time now, and even they are not getting new $10s during that time, and I was told by a representative in July 2017 that they did order $10s from the bank, but they got short-shipped (implying the bank no longer has many, no longer orders them, and may be phasing them out of my province).

Time will tell.  If I don't get any of the new $10s in my change by April 2019, then sadly, the $10 bill has reached the end of the line in my province, in terms of orders.

Does anyone know if they new 10s are limited quantities or they are replacing all new 10s with these instead of the 10 dollar frontier note ?

They'll be replacing the existing MacDonald $10s as they wear out, as per press release.

Considering I live in NL, where there is a very small number of $10 bills circulating, if all of them wear out and get replaced, unless all of my province’s banks discontinued ordering $10 bills due to low demand, they will likely be fully replaced by next August.

Another possibility to consider: Looking back at when the 1988 issue $50 and $100 bills were released (both on the first Monday in December in 1989 and 1990 respectively), I never saw any in existence until after Christmas.  This could be due to the bank branches having already ordered a bulk supply of money to cover the busy weeks of holiday shopping – and the main branches did receive an order of the new bills not long after the December release dates, but never got any of the new bills until after Christmas.  The $50 and $100 bills were a different story, as demand was slowly rising at that point, and there were some bills of that denomination worn out by that point.

Regarding the $10 bills, its demand has been in continuous decline for decades, and they rarely get ordered, if at all.  It could be possible that no bank in my province may get any shipment of the new $10 bills until next summer when the existing $10 bills that were delivered to banks in July or August 2014 wear out and are due to be replaced, and that may explain the existing $10s that were issued in November 2013 (with prefix FEW) are likely fully replaced with the last batch of Frontiers $10 notes that have prefix FTP, and Sir John A. MacDonald will be frequently seen on our $10 bills for another five years.  That may explain the press release citing that the new $10s will be issued in the coming weeks and months.  In other words, initial distribution of the new $10 bill will probably be slower this time.

It appears there are no reports of any bank getting the new $10 bills at this point.  Maybe the orders are being placed this week and it will take about a week for them to be delivered.  I thought orders would have to be placed 48 hours in advance, unless policies changed?

Apparently, the new $10 bill was in circulation for 24 hours yesterday and apparently a number of Canadians actually hate it due to its vertical orientation.

Story HERE.

I guess that may explain why there has been no activity in new $10 bills by now.  I'm afraid this may be the final nail to the coffin for our beloved $10 bill.

I don't know why there were $10 bills printed with prefix CDX, which to me is not a realistic prefix, considering that X was discontinued for years.  Sounds like it was only used for promotional purposes or maybe it was a test note prefix.

I am thinking the "C" in CD* actually represented "commemorative" and was not intended to be a regular series.

Wagner, where did you get the FTY $10s?

- I think you're right. When I went to my BMO branch she said they had stockpiles of $10 and couldn't get rid of them fast enough.  The clerk took a dim view to my quest for the new $10.  Also: several tellers haven't even been informed they would be rolling out new $10 (which I thought was strange). Everyone seemed on board with the "150" commemorative but not this one.

-this doesn't surprise me at all.  First there'll be several traditionalist who will be annoyed that J A McDonald has been removed. When the Journey $10 came out i couldn't believe how many collectors were griping about its poor design (& yes it was highly counterfeited) but I didn't think it was THAT bad (especially after seeing the 2013 Frontiers polymer!) BTW: your link doesn't work.

walktothewater, you might be on to something.  I bet banks had a vast inventory of $10 bills and they struggled to go through them, possibly taking years, still ongoing.  The banks may have decided that the prolonged stockpile would be their official last order of $10s and the writing is on the wall.   It wouldn't surprise me if the new $10 bill will probably be the last.

Either way, I'm afraid my quest for $10 bills may soon be coming to an end.  The way things are going, the $10 bill may end up lasting only a few more years before it heads to currency heaven.  If it does, it wouldn't be the first time a banknote denomination would be dropped because of low demand.

Remember the $500 bill?  It was released in 1935, but nobody wanted them, and the denomination was retired in 1938 after a short life of only three years.  I bet my grandfather never saw one when he was a kid in the latter 1930s.

If so- then I was correct - than the FTW & FTZ entered 2 years ago on the SNDB are likely unreported typos (which should be removed).

Or, the FTWs just recently reported may be a continuation from where the prefix left off in the Frontiers series.

To add to my response to walktothewater's post, i heard stories of people in Toronto having rotten luck finding a bank that has the new $10s.  That reminds me of something: do you suppose banks had given up on $10 bills because of people refusing them, possibly due to the bill's reputation for being counterfeited? Or could it have to do with inflation after minimum wage rose to $14 per hour some months ago (soon to be $15 per hour in January)?

Rupiah, where did you get the FTWs?  What city/town?
