I've noticed recently, a lot of banks hand out Bird 50s. And I mean a lot of them. Teller drawers normally are 90% Bird $50 notes. ATM machines only give Bird $50s.

Anyone know what's going on? I had quite a bit of trouble finding Journey $50s to take with me for my vacation in the Far East.

I had to run to at least 10 bank branches today accross Mississauga in a desperate attempt to find 100 Journey $50s. Unfortunately, I only got my hands on 40 of them.

The other unfortunate thing was, RBC branches, BMO branches and TD branches use those machines, so they don't have any control over the notes that are spat out.

But I have noticed that Bird $100s have pretty much disappeared from circulation.

It may take time for the $50s to fully replace the Birds notes.  I daresay they might be one of the lesser-used notes, if not the least.  Oh who am I kidding?  4 prefixes for the $50s compared to 15 for the $100s?

I change a lot of money during a week and I can tell you here in Quebec. It is 60/40 with a lot more journey than Birds...so I think that depends where you live.

In montreal for the $20 and $50 its more birds then journey. The $50 there is no surprise there. In general the 50 is used much less than the 20. I remember when they changed 50 back in 1988. I took forever before we got nothing but bird 50's at the bank. Even today multicoloured 50's still appear in the bank... just look at one of the other post, some member got a whole bunch of 1975 50's

Actually, there are six prefixes on the Journey $50's and not four - don't forget FMG and FMI.  ;)

And do you suppose the upcoming release of the upgraded tens may possibly delay the printing of more Journey $50's?
