How to tell printer on 1969-75 series?

I've heard that the printer (BABN or CBN) of a 1969-75 Multicoloured note can be determined by slight variations in the shapes of the digits in the serial number.  But I can't see any differences!

Is there another way, or can anyone help?  

I've never given it much thought, but this might work.....
The 3-letter prefixes were designated as follows: A & B for BABN and E & F for CBN. If the variations in the typeset hold true for both signatures and the change from 2 to 3-letter prefixes, then a comparison of a known printer for a 3-letter printer to an unknown 2-letter prefix might solve the puzzle. Maybe its already been done and nobody has bothered to "share" the info. Give it a try and let us know what you can find.

Since it was just the $1 note printed by both, and both used specific first letters in the serial number...

Thanks Paul, I know about how to tell them apart on the triple letter prefix, (A,B,C for BABN, and E,F,G,H for CBN) I was just wondering how to do it on the 2-letter prefix.

Okay thanks, I hadn't noticed that.  Denom letters used on 2-letter prefix 1973 $1's are A, F, G, I, L, M, N, O, and P.  Did each printer "own" specific denom letters?

Page 238 of my 2002 Charlton confirms that the style of type in the serial numbers differentiates the printers, but it doesnt elaborate.

A related question... is it possible to tell the difference between CBNC BABNC printed notes on the 1967 $1 special issue note with the 1867 1967 in place of serial numbers?

I have never really looked too closely at the 1967 notes, but with other issues, I find that the BABN has slightly darker ink and much heavier embossing than CBN.

How could you tell the printer if the serial number was a two-letter prefix?  

This issue only really applies to the $1s.  It can be surmised that the denominational letters used by each printer in the 1967-1975 Series (before 3-digit prefixes) are the same as they were in 1954.  Other evidence, specifically the orientation of the asterisks, can give further insight.  If I recall correctly, BABN uses an asterisk with a vertical band, and CBN uses an asterisk with a horizontal band.

It's actually a piece of cake....just look at the 7's in the serial number.  BABN use a curved 7, while CBN use a straight 7.
