They look like someone used a pen to draw a straight line and a dot, but no ink came out.
It is obvious that those marks where made by someone using the note under some other document when they were crossing their "T"'s and dotting their "I"'s So I guess a "tool" did make the mark!Also could be morse code dot dash stands for the letter "A"
True, but if it's dash dot then it's the letter "N".
However if you consider the dot and dash separately, dot is the letter "E"

At present, I have all of my teeth..... but, this may change in the very very near future.
Might be from the clamping and banding the notes or during cutting.
